About Our International Student Pilot Program
“Perhaps the greatest power of educational exchange is the power to convert nations into peoples and to translate ideologies into aspirations” - Senator J. William Fulbright.
For almost three decades, our flight school has had the privilege of hosting international students for flight training here in the United States. The M1 Student Visa programs that our students participate in are the results of the efforts of US Senator J. William Fulbright, which were realized when the US Congress passed the Fullbright-Hays Act in 1961.
The purpose of the Fulbright-Hays Act is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchange. Participation in daily life and immersion in a new culture fosters understanding, and, with this understanding comes the realization we are more alike than different, developing an appreciation of our differences. The M1 Student Visa program is an expression of this purpose.
What Is Allowed With An M1 Student Visa?
International students seeking a certificate/rating and training cannot train in the United States on a tourist visa and USATS strictly complies with the Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Safety Administration regulations. The M1 Student Visa allows an international student to participate in a full-time course of study at a SEVP-approved institution such as USATS, for the established duration of all our FAA-approved courses and up to 12-months duration, such as our full Professional Pilot Programs – helicopter and airplane – and all FAA courses offered by USATS.
Please note, immigration and labor laws in the United States are very strictly enforced. In shopping for schools, be aware that students cannot train unless courses are FAA approved. USATS has many FAA approved courses including the full suite of Professional Pilot Program courses for helicopter and airplane!
