Helicopter pilot training with a global reputation

With an average of 320 flying days per year, we can make sure your training will be done on time. Our practice areas are located within 10 nautical miles from our airport, limiting the transit time for your off-airport training.

Our mission is to produce the most highly qualified, proficient graduates and leaders capable of unlimited growth throughout their careers.

Courses

Professional Pilot Program (PPP)

This program is designed for students with no prior aviation experience. It includes all certificates and ratings you need to successfully start your aviation career. You will obtain a Private, Instrument, Commercial, Flight Instructor, Flight Instructor Instrument and Sling load certificates and ratings with 200 hours of helicopter flight time. Importantly, you will also meet the SFAR-73 requirements to qualify as a Flight Instructor to teach in the R44. The program is completed in 10 months.

Private Pilot License (PPL)

If recreational activities are what you are looking for, helicopters are versatile enough to get you just about anywhere you want to go. That versatility does come with some responsibilities! To safely operate a helicopter to and from off-airport locations requires additional skills, a strong commitment to understanding your aircraft performance and mainly to have been properly trained in Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM). This training MUST be taught from the start on your first lesson. Understanding threats and how to manage them before and during the flight are the key elements to make you a safe and competent pilot.

If becoming a professional helicopter pilot is your goal but your schedule demands you undergo your training in steps, let us help you acquire strong fundamentals that will guide you through the rest of your training.

If you already hold an airplane certificate, our FAA approved part 141 add-on courses will save you time and money.

Prerequisites:

  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Be able to read, speak, write and understand English

Training:

  • Appropriate ground knowledge
  • 40 hours of flight time to include:

Course length:

  • 3 to 4 months

Aircraft:

  • S300CBi
  • R44
*Hours subject to student performance

Instrument Rating Course (IR)

An Instrument Rating has become a must-have in the arsenal of a helicopter pilot.

  • For safety: Even if you are planning on being a "VFR" only pilot, simply recognizing that we are all just human and capable of bad decision making/mistakes or unexpected weather happens, study of the NTSB database demonstrates that being a rated AND proficient instrument pilot is a solid investment for an increased life expectancy.
  • For career: The majority of jobs require an Instrument Rating; either it is inherent to the work (IFR Offshore captain, IFR-EMS or VIP pilot) or simply required by an insurance policy for some VFR operations (Flight over water, VFR-EMS). This is also true when trying to find your first job as a flight instructor!

Our training course has been designed by our experienced staff members who have real IFR experience from operating from the North Sea to the coast of West Africa. We can offer the IR training in a traditional 6 pack instrument aircraft but prioritize this training in a modern glass cockpit environment.

Prerequisites:

  • Hold a private rotorcraft helicopter certificate
  • Be able to read, speak, write and understand English

Training:

  • Ground School: 68 hrs
  • Dual: 31.5 hrs of instrument training
  • Simulator: 3.5 hrs

Aircraft:

  • S300CBi
  • R44

Course length:

  •  2.5 months
*Hours subject to student performance

Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

The Commercial Pilot Certificate is the next important step in achieving your dream and making money out of your passion.

Unless you are following an integrated professional training program (from no flight hours to having a commercial), it is very difficult to provide an estimate at this stage of the game. Applicants already holding a private certificate have different flight experience and technical knowledge. Please Contact us so we can provide you with personalized training plan.

Pre-requisites:

  • Hold a private pilot certificate
  • Be able to read, speak, write and understand English

Training:

  • Appropriate Ground knowledge
  • Dual: 20 hours (FAA Minimum)
  • Solo: 10 hours (FAA Minimum)
  • Has logged 150 hours total time consisting of: 100 hours in powered aircraft (50 hours must be in a helicopter), 100 hours of PIC (35 hours must be in a helicopter)

*Plus any Dual/Solo time needed to meet 150 hours of total time

Course length:

  • Based on individual experience and flight hours

Aircraft:

  • S300CBi
  • R44
*Hours subject to student performance

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)

After graduation from commercial training, becoming a flight instructor is the usual path to capture your initial job. It will give you the opportunity to build your flight hours and meet the minimum requirements for your first commercial position (Tours, Offshore single-engine captain or twin-engine co-pilot, Corporate 135 operators, etc.)

Some pilots see it just as an hour building exercise but we see it as the most challenging, rewarding and interesting job you will probably experience. If you want to really know a subject or master a skill, either write a book about it or teach it. We are obviously in the business of the latter.

Our flight instructor course is a structured course focusing on the soft skills such as Crew Resource Management (CRM), Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) and Threat and Error Management (TEM) specifically tailored to the flight instructor.

After demonstrating you have the required flight abilities, you will learn about teaching techniques to safely and efficiently transfer your technical and flight skills, along with common student mistakes and how to correct/avoid them

Pre-requisites:

  • Hold a commercial or ATP rotorcraft helicopter certificate
  • Be able to read, speak, write and understand English

Training:

  • Appropriate ground knowledge on the Fundamental of Instruction, Private and Commercial curriculum.
  • Ground School: 60 hours
  • Dual: As required but expect 25 hours
  • Solo: None

Course length:

  • 2 months

Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII)

Training:

  • Additional helicopter specific knowledge
  • Dual: As required but expect 15 hours
  • Solo: None
  • The training plan is designed based on your experience and currency as a Flight Instructor

Course length:

  •  1 month
*Hours subject to student performance

ATP-L

This is the highest level of certification an airman can achieve. This certificate is required to act as the Pilot In Command of an aircraft requiring 2 pilots for IFR operations.

The FAA regulations do not mandate any specific training since, in theory, you should have through your flying experience, the necessary knowledge and skills to pass the associated checkride.

The reality is that to limit the cost, you will be taking your flight test in a single-engine aircraft that you have last flown a couple of years ago and that does not have a stabilization system or autopilot. Some adjustment and a refresher will be necessary.

This is primarily an Instrument checkride with more stringent completion standards. Advanced VFR flight maneuvers will also be tested such as autorotation to a power recovery on take-off and enroute. So, come and refresh with us. Our flight instructors went through that process themselves and we have designed a course that is flexible enough to adjust to your own experience.

Pre-requisites:

  • Hold an FAA Commercial Certificate and Instrument rating rotorcraft helicopter, OR;
  • Hold an ICAO Commercial license, Instrument rating rotorcraft helicopter and a valid FAA Foreign license verification letter.
  • Hold at least a Class 3 FAA medical.
  • Be able to read, speak, write and understand English
  • Meet ATP minimum hours as per FAR 61.161

Training:

  • None required

Unless you have already trained with us, it is very difficult to accurately identify your specific training needs. After submitting some details about yourself, we will give you an estimate based on your experience, career and previous training. The hours listed below has been achieved with applicants having received their certificates in the USA and currently flying in an IFR environment.

  • Ground: 5 hrs
  • Dual VFR: 3 hrs
  • Dual IFR: 5 hrs

Course length:

  • 1-2 weeks

Aircraft:

  • S300CBi
  • R44
*Hours subject to student performance
